Pin Collecting Information

What Makes a Pin Collectible?

Many people ask, "What makes a pin collectible?" The simple answer is that any pin that you like is collectible. However, there are certain qualities that make one pin more likely to rise in value than another.

Following is a quick list of collectibility guidelines:

Limited quantities
Time of release
Individually numbered
Dated from a special event
Countdown to a special event
Event-specific pins
Holiday pins
Specially packaged pins
Corporate sponsored pins

Each Olympic pin and most of our sports pins are produced by Aminco International. Each Olympic pin has a 4-digit item number stamped on the back, preceded by the letters SLO. A letter following the number indicates a variation in the pin, such as a color difference. After the SLO and item number, there is a dash and a number. This number indicates the production level. A 4-digit number is the exact quantity produced. A single-digit number indicates a production range as shown:

Level Production Range
1 1 - 4,999
2 5,000-9,000
3 10,000 - 24,999
4 25,000 - 49,999
5 50,000 - no limit
